Nipple-areola complex (NAC) correction is a plastic surgical procedure performed to improve the size and shape of the nipple and areola, as well as to restore their function when necessary. The procedure is performed for both men and women with cosmetic concerns, age-related or physiological changes, and injuries affecting the nipple-areola complex.
Indications for NAC correction
The procedure may be recommended in the following cases:
Excessively long or wide nipples;
Deformity of one or both nipples;
Nipple hypertrophy;
Inverted nipples;
Nipple asymmetry;
Pigmentation disorders affecting the nipple or areola.
Contraindications
NAC correction is generally not recommended in the following cases:
Diabetes mellitus;
Infectious diseases;
Purulent or inflammatory breast diseases;
Pregnancy and breastfeeding;
Malignant breast tumors;
Diseases of the internal organs;
Patients under 18 years of age;
Mastopathy;
Mental disorders;
Blood clotting disorders;
Chronic diseases;
Cancer;
Heart disease.
How to prepare for nipple correction
Before surgery, patients should have a consultation with a plastic surgeon. The following examinations and laboratory tests are usually required:
Complete blood count (CBC);
Electrocardiogram (ECG);
Chest fluorography (or chest X-ray if indicated);
Hepatitis screening;
HIV/AIDS and syphilis tests;
Breast ultrasound;
Blood clotting (coagulation) test;
Urinalysis.
Patients should avoid alcohol, smoking, and blood-thinning medications for two weeks before surgery unless otherwise instructed by their physician.
Rehabilitation after surgery
To minimize the risk of postoperative complications, our surgeons provide each patient with detailed postoperative instructions. Following these recommendations is essential.
The recovery period usually lasts about two weeks. During this time, patients should:
Wear a special supportive bra or compression garment that does not put excessive pressure on the nipples;
Keep the surgical sutures dry and prevent water from reaching them;
Avoid baths, saunas, swimming pools, hot tubs, and sunbathing;
Sleep only on the back or side;
Clean the surgical sutures with antiseptic solutions as prescribed by the surgeon.
