Procedures
Reduction mammoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to reduce the size of the breasts. Having very large breasts is not always a source of comfort or confidence. In many cases, excessive breast size can place significant strain on the back and spine, leading to poor posture, pain, and daily discomfort.
Indications for Breast Reduction
Breast reduction surgery may be recommended for the following reasons:
Excessively large breasts (gigantomastia);
Spine and back problems;
Breast asymmetry;
Poor breast aesthetics, including scars, stretch marks, and skin irritation beneath the breasts;
Discomfort during sleep and physical activities;
Chronic fatigue caused by excessive breast weight.
In addition, gigantomastia may increase the difficulty of detecting certain breast conditions during breast ultrasound examinations.
Contraindications
As with any surgical procedure, reduction mammoplasty is not recommended in the following cases:
Diabetes mellitus;
Cancer, especially breast cancer;
Pregnancy and breastfeeding;
Chronic or infectious diseases;
Blood clotting disorders.
How to prepare for breast reduction surgery
The first step is a consultation with a plastic surgeon. Our specialists carefully evaluate each patient's condition, discuss expectations, and develop an individualized treatment plan.
Before surgery, the following examinations are required:
Blood tests;
Screening for hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, and other infectious diseases;
Blood clotting tests;
ECG;
Chest X-ray (fluorography);
Breast ultrasound;
Urinalysis.
Patients should stop taking blood-thinning medications and antibiotics (only under their physician's guidance), as well as avoid alcohol and smoking for three weeks before surgery.
Recovery after reduction mammoplasty
Following surgery, our specialists provide detailed postoperative care instructions. Careful adherence to these recommendations helps ensure proper healing.
In most cases:
Sutures are removed after 1–2 weeks;
Compression garments should be worn for one month;
Sports and strenuous physical activities should be avoided for two months.
The final results are usually visible after approximately six months, when swelling has fully subsided and scars become less noticeable.
