Indications for Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery may be recommended for the following reasons:

• Excessively large breasts (gigantomastia);

• Spine and back problems;

• Breast asymmetry;

• Poor breast aesthetics, including scars, stretch marks, and skin irritation beneath the breasts;

• Discomfort during sleep and physical activities;

• Chronic fatigue caused by excessive breast weight.

In addition, gigantomastia may increase the difficulty of detecting certain breast conditions during breast ultrasound examinations.

Contraindications

As with any surgical procedure, reduction mammoplasty is not recommended in the following cases:

• Diabetes mellitus;

• Cancer, especially breast cancer;

• Pregnancy and breastfeeding;

• Chronic or infectious diseases;

• Blood clotting disorders.

How to prepare for breast reduction surgery

Recovery after reduction mammoplasty

In most cases:

• Sutures are removed after 1–2 weeks;

• Compression garments should be worn for one month;

• Sports and strenuous physical activities should be avoided for two months.
